At first glance, you could mistake it for steel. Same proportions. Same brushed surfaces. Same Royal Oak silhouette. But this is not steel. This is a white gold Royal Oak reference 14790.
Introduced in 1992, the 14790 measures 36 mm, offering a more wearable alternative to the full-size Jumbo. The sharp bezel, integrated bracelet and angular case architecture give the watch a presence that feels far larger than the dimensions suggest.
White gold is a curious choice. It looks almost identical to steel, yet carries a significant premium and was produced in far smaller numbers. That alone makes a 14790BC special.
The Salmon Dial
Then there is the dial. Salmon has always held a certain status in collecting circles. Deeply appreciated by collectors. It carries warmth without flash. In the early Royal Oak context, it was never part of the standard offering. As confirmed by the papers, this watch was originally delivered as an /03. The salmon dial was not a standard configuration, but was later fitted by Audemars Piguet at the request of a select client. The petite tapisserie pattern softens under the salmon tone, giving the dial depth and texture. Depending on the light, it shifts from copper to rose to a muted pink hue.
Condition
The case remains sharp, with strong bevels and a well-defined bracelet that retains its structure. It feels solid, as a white gold Royal Oak should. The watch comes with its box and papers.
The dial retains its warmth and character, with only a minor blemish just above the word “Automatic,” mentioned for the sake of transparency.
There may be plenty of fish in the sea. Not many like this Salmon Royal Oak.
